Harvey's Story

Workplace My first job was at Zion Day Camp, where I got paid to swim, play and watch 11 to 13 year olds. What I remember most about it is when the church administrator The Rev Joseph M. Deberry died at the Church. It happened on a day when he had visited at the camp and had talked with many in our group. Two of the boys Calvin and Billy were afraid of death. They wanted to attend the funeral, but were afraid. So I shared with them about death, what happens when one passes on. The day of the funeral, I attended the same with these guys, one had my left hand the other had my right. We got through it ok. The two (now grown men) remeber that time as do I.. For the last four years I've been employed by Day & Zimmerman LLC, assigned to McNeil Consumer Health Care in Lancaster, PA. I ref York City L.L. baseball, serve as a traffic advisor for The Revolution Base Ball Team and work with Community Youth initiatives. Serving as Vice Chair of the City of York Human Relations Commission is very rewarding. Since the confirmation of my appointment to the Commission by City Counsel in February 2007; my work with the HRC, has grown in responsibility. Fair Housing Law Judge has been added, which allows me the opportunity to see first hand situations facing individuals in housing. As mentioned in my acceptance speech: "Direct and legal action can complement one another. Even those of us with a need for corrected vision would be able to see; that when these are skillfully employed, each becomes more effective. Thus, when the Commissions, City Counsels, City Halls, State Legislatures even Congress; become less committed to complacency and more in tune with vigorous positive action: the relationship between all of Humanity & Progressiveness will be strengthened and our City will be that Great and Brilliantly Peaceful place we can call home". My service to the citizens of York began in May of 2004 as a consultant. This relat...Expand for more
ionship continues. In the Spring of 2006;along with Melvin R Baber, I was sworn in as a City Police Chaplain by The Hon. John Brenner, Mayor City of York, Pennsylvania. When not working in the above mentioned areas, I serve the Police Department's Community Services Division part time. Looking forward to completing the courses required to recieve a Bachelors of Theology degree in the near future, I am currently serving as assistant to the Pastor of The Friendship Baptist Church 651 E King Street in York, Pennsylvania 17403. We all are sinners and have fallen short of the Glory of GOD, that's why JESUS was crucified, died, got buried, But....with all power rose again for all the sins of the World so you and I can be saved! GOD sent HIS only begotten Son, JESUS, because he was the only man that lived a sin-free life! JESUS is our forgiver & justifier from the penalty of sin, (Sin= means we missed the mark) We/Man are not perfect we're gonna make mistakes, but now you know there is a mediator (JESUS) between us and GOD who can stand in the gap because GOD does not and cannot look at sin which is smeared on us, yet we can go boldly to the throne of GOD's grace & obtain Mercy. Tekoa Yeshuah ~ Selah As I reflect on my school days, it was a wonderful time of growth, developement and the exercise of social arts! We were a mixed breed, but we never had any riots, No smoking crosses and no ropes other than jump rope. Kids from all over the City came to enjoy this new possibility of practicing unity. With all of the reunions and sectional get togethers, I've gotten back in touch with so many close friends. If I had a wish, I would ask God to allow all of us from each class to be in a rehersal with David J.M. King once more. I would even love to hear him say" tune it up Harvey". What he gave all of us couldn't be found at Macy's or at Target. He gave us posture, vision and hope. He was real. I know that the praise and worship director in heaven was fired long long ago. Dr King could make a good one! RIP Uncle Dave.
